How to open .UVP files on Windows

To open .UVP files on Windows, in File Explorer, right-click the .UVP file → Open with → Choose another app.

Common issues

No app can open the .UVP file

Many systems don’t include a default handler for the vendor-specific MIME type video/vnd.dece.pd, so the file may appear “unknown” even though it is a video-related format.

  1. On Linux desktops, confirm the .uvp → video/vnd.dece.pd mapping exists in your MIME database and then assign a default app for that MIME type using your desktop’s MIME association settings.
  2. If your platform has no handler, move the file to a desktop environment intended to work with DECE/UltraViolet PD content rather than expecting a generic player to recognize it.

Opens in the wrong application

If a system associates .uvp with a generic video app (or an unrelated app), opening may fail or show an error because the app doesn’t actually support video/vnd.dece.pd.

  1. Change the default application for the MIME type video/vnd.dece.pd (or for the .uvp extension) to an application you know is intended to handle DECE/UltraViolet PD workflows.
  2. Retry opening after updating the association (on Linux, follow the freedesktop.org MIME apps association rules used by your desktop environment).

The file is identified as video/vnd.dece.pd but still won’t play

Some vendor-specific containers are meant for a particular distribution/consumption workflow; the file may not be directly playable in common media players even if it is “video.”

  1. Treat it as DECE/UltraViolet PD content: use the workflow/environment that produced the file (or that is designed to consume that content type).
  2. Avoid “fixes” like renaming the extension; instead, rely on MIME/type-aware handling and the proper ecosystem.

Security note

Treat .UVP files as untrusted binary media containers: malformed media files can sometimes trigger vulnerabilities in media parsers, so prefer opening them in well-maintained software and keep your OS and media framework updated.
