Common issues

The file opens as gibberish or no image preview appears

.SJPG is a sealed/protected variant of JPEG (image/vnd.sealedmedia.softseal.jpg). Standard photo viewers typically cannot decode it, so thumbnails and previews often fail.

  1. Open the file using the Sealed Media “Unsealer” / Oracle IRM Desktop client instead of a regular image viewer.
  2. If you received the file by email or a download portal, re-download it to ensure it was not altered in transit.

‘Access denied’ / cannot unseal the file

Sealed files commonly require authorization (policies/rights). Without the correct account, credentials, or rights, the Unsealer/IRM client may refuse to open it.

  1. Confirm you are signed in with the correct organization account in the Unsealer/IRM client.
  2. Ask the sender or your administrator to verify you have permission to access the sealed content.

Renaming .SJPG to .JPG doesn’t work

Changing the extension does not remove the sealing/protection, so most JPEG tools will still fail to open it.

  1. Restore the original .sjpg extension if you changed it.
  2. Use the Unsealer/IRM client to open (or export/decrypt, if your permissions allow) a standard .jpg copy.

No application is associated with .SJPG

Your system may not have an Unsealer/IRM client installed or configured to handle the SealedMedia MIME type.

  1. Install the organization-approved Unsealer/IRM Desktop software and try again.
  2. On Linux desktops, ensure the MIME database/associations include image/vnd.sealedmedia.softseal.jpg and point to the correct application (where applicable).

.SJPG files are designed to enforce access control; if you obtain an .SJPG outside official channels, treat it as potentially sensitive protected content and avoid trying to bypass protection.
