How to open .PICT files on Mac

The file won’t open in modern apps

PICT is a deprecated QuickDraw-era format, so many current image viewers/editors no longer include a decoder.

  2. If you have access to macOS or Linux tools that still support PICT, convert the file to PNG/JPEG and use the converted copy going forward.

Wrong file association (opens in the wrong program)

Your OS may not have a correct association for .pict, especially on systems that rely on MIME databases and where PICT is uncommon.

  1. Use Open With to choose a PICT-capable viewer/editor and set it as the default for .pict if needed.

Security note
